Claus Cursiefen

Claus Cursiefen, MD, is Chairman and Professor of the Department of Ophthalmology at University of Cologne, Germany. Since 2024 he is Speaker of the only DFG-funded Collaborative Research Unit at a German University Eye Hospital (“Towards immunomodulatory and antilymphangiogenic therapies for age-related blinding eye diseases"; www.sfb1607.de). He is an internationally known expert in corneal and anterior segment diseases and a specialist for minimally invasive corneal transplantation surgery. His research focus is on modulation of ocular lymphangiogenesis in corneal transplantation. Dr. Cursiefen received several prestigious awards, published around 600 publications, amongst them in PNAS, JEM, JCI and Nature Medicine and since 2016 is member of the prestigious German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina.
