    Zoltán Jakus

    Zoltán Jakus, MD, PhD, received his M.D. in general medicine and his PhD in molecular and cellular physiology. He is an Associate Professor at Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary. After completing his postdoctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA, USA, he established a research program at Semmelweis University focused on identifying organ-specific functions of the lymphatic system and lymphangiogenic signaling in preclinical animal models using translational approaches. His research group showed that nucleoside-modified VEGFC mRNA encapsulated in lipid nanoparticles induces organ-specific lymphatic growth and reverses experimental lymphedema. They have also demonstrated critical organ-specific functions of the lymphatic vasculature in the meninges, lung, and skin under physiological and pathological conditions.
